NATURE OF WORKS
Only productive works are permitted under the scheme. With
a view to minimizing the recurrence of drought like situation
in the State, it has been prescribed that moisture
conservation and water conservation works should be given
priority. Accordingly, priority of works is fixed as follows:
1. Irrigation works: Labour intensive components of major and
medium irrigation projects, canal works, state and local
sector minor irrigation, percolation and storage tanks and
underground bandharas.
2. Soil conservation and land
development works.
3. Afforestation and Social Forestry works
4. Roads and others (roads included in the 1981-2001 road
plan.)
5. Village Internal Roads.
6. Individual beneficiary
schemes (viz, Jawahar wells, Horticulture, etc)
The ratio of
unskilled to skilled for minor irrigation tanks, percolation
tanks, village tanks, maji malgujari tanks, forest ponds,
Gabian bandhara and roads has been fixed at 51:49 and for all
other works it is 60:40.
SANCTION AND IMPLEMENTATION OF WORKS UNDER EGS
The Collector is empowered to sanction the works costing up
to Rs 50 lakh and the Divisional Commissioner up to Rs 75 lakh.
Works costing above Rs 75 lakh are to be approved by the State
Government.
